What happens at your appointment?

Your appointment will depend on your age, dental history and reason for visiting. A typical check-up and clean may include:

1
Oral health examination

Your dentist assesses the teeth, gums, bite and mouth for signs of decay, gum inflammation, tooth wear, damage or other concerns.

2
Professional cleaning

A professional clean to remove plaque, tartar and surface stains that regular brushing and flossing may not fully address.

3
Gum health check

Checking for signs of bleeding, inflammation, recession or periodontal disease that may require further management.

4
X-rays where required

Digital X-rays may be recommended to assess areas not visible during a visual examination, including between teeth and beneath the gumline.

5
Personalised advice

Guidance on brushing, flossing, diet, fluoride, mouthguards and preventative care tailored to your age and oral health.

6
Treatment planning

If further treatment is needed, your dentist will explain findings, discuss options and provide a clear treatment plan and cost estimate.

Please note: Health fund rebates and government benefits depend on eligibility, level of cover, annual limits, waiting periods and fund rules. Confirm your entitlements directly with your fund or Medicare before treatment.

Frequently asked questions

At what age should my child first visit the dentist?

Children are generally encouraged to visit when their first tooth appears or by around their first birthday. Early visits help children become familiar with the dental environment and allow our team to monitor development from the start.

How often should my family have check-ups?

Many patients attend every six months, but recommendations vary depending on oral health, gum health, dental history and individual risk factors. Your dentist will advise a schedule that suits your family’s needs.

Do you see children under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

Yes. Dentists @ Canning Vale sees eligible Medicare card patients under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. Contact our team to confirm eligibility and available services under the program.

Do you treat nervous or anxious patients?

Yes. Our team takes a calm and supportive approach for patients of all ages who feel anxious about dental visits. We also offer sedation options – including IV sedation – for patients who need additional support.

Can family members book appointments together?

Where appointment availability allows, our reception team can help coordinate appointments for multiple family members on the same day or in sequence.
